An Early This American Life Experiment...

In a funny connection to my last post, I was trolling the musician forum on craigslist again and came across yet another interestingly-worded Christian rock ad: "I'm sick of secular bands writing all the good tunes". Which, in my mind, seems kind of similar to "I'm sick of atheists writing all the good theorems," or "I'm sick of Jewish people hogging all the klezmer music." (I.e. I don't see the relevance of the complaint.)

An early episode of This American Life did a story in which a music producer combed through the Reader's music classifieds and put a band together just based on individuals looking to form a band, the pitch of the story being: if there are so many people looking for bands, why are they all having such a hard time starting one? (An oversimplification, true, but it's TAL not All Things Considered.) That was my first thought, too.
